Die vergessenen Lecks der Öl-Industrie

4. Teil: Nigerdelta: Shell und die Umweltkatastrophe in Südnigeria

Seit 50 Jahren wird in der einst fruchtbaren Region des Nigerdeltas im Süden Nigerias Öl gefördert. Einer der wichtigsten Akteure vor Ort ist der Shell-Konzern. Seit Jahren läuft aus dem maroden, 6000 Kilometer langen Pipeline-Netz immer wieder Öl aus. Hinzu kommen Sabotageakte unterschiedlicher Rebellengruppen: Sie zapfen Ölleitungen an oder sabotieren Pipelines, teils aus Protest gegen die Ölförderung, die den Fischern die Lebensgrundlage zerstört hat, und teils aus anderen politischen Motiven. Nach Schätzungen von Umweltorganisationen verschmutzen pro Jahr rund 13 Millionen Barrel auslaufendes Öl das Nigerdelta - das entspricht etwa der Menge Öl, die 1989 aus der Exxon Valdez ins Meer auslief, als der Tanker vor Alaska auf ein Riff lief. Shell versucht inzwischen, die Lage schon aus eigenem Interesse zu stabilisieren. Doch ein großer Teil des Geldes, das der Ölkonzern an die Regierung zahlt, versickert in den Taschen korrupter Regierungsbeamter wie das Öl im Boden des Deltas. Die Region wird sich nach Einschätzung von Greenpeace von 50 Jahren chronischer Verschmutzung kaum erholen können. “So lange es nichts oder so gut wie nichts kostet, die Umwelt zu verschmutzen, wird sich kaum etwas ändern”, sagt Greenpeace-Aktivist van Lieven. Kosten durch Umweltschäden hätten in der Kalkulation der Förderkonzerne bislang nur einen verschwindend geringen Anteil. Während die Kosten für BP durch die Ölpest im Golf von Mexiko immens ausfallen dürften, habe Shell in Nigeria bislang nur wenig zu befürchten: Die meisten Schadensersatzforderungen hat der Konzern bislang erfolgreich abgewehrt. Gosh! Germans are having great depressions!

Both economic and psychologically as it seems..

The German Google, which shows a ranking of the most used search terms Germany-wide, suggests the term “suicide” at first place for the first letters of self- (selbst-). From suicidal techniques to painless suicides and even advices (!) with some terms like “starting one´s own business” and a name of a mag and a movie in between.

Since when do ppl even have to google things like that? Besides the news related stuff the other´s are personal researches for sure.

Bing and Ecosia won´t show any search suggestions tho.

Hadn´t thought that Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein would be that far on top and Niedersachsen at the 10th place.

There comes to my mind that many teachers absolutely don´t want to discuss Goethe´s “Die Leiden des jungen Werther” (and certainly even more so Bauersima´s “norway.today”) because of being afraid that they might be taken responsible if „something” happens, but first and foremost it would be the potential criticism of the parents. It might be a touchy topic, indeed, but even so important to talk about.
Wouldn´t the opinions be more definite if people already make up their mind about such topics at that age before being in a deep depression and if so having people to talk to about it (not necessarily personally but discussing in objectivity)? Wouldn´t it be better to talk about it straightforwardly than declaring it a taboo subject and keeping topics like these dead quiet?

One can make fried eggs on the pavement in China these days! Wannago! :D
